Some general advice in using the web as well as issues specific to the T.A.G. website.

Navigation

Navigation is basically the means by which you look through (or 'browse') a website. The Navigation Dial and the Navigation Bar beneath the Logo Banner at the top of the Webpage are designed to help you navigate around the T.A.G. website. The Home Page is the first page accessed by Internet users. Click on the appropriate link in the left hand column which describes the area of information you want to find, such as 'Governor's Support', and the relevant page will load.

Each page has a top and bottom navigation bar which have links to the main pages within the site. To see a list of all the pages within the website, open the Site Map link, which shows visual and text layouts of the entire site.

Links

Text which is underlined (usually in a different colour) represent links to other webpages. or different places within the existing page (most links will use the default colours of your browser). Clicking on these will take you to another page, or open a new e-mail message if it is a contact link. There are basically five types of link within this site, as explained below:

  1. Anchor Links will move you around within one page, and so are particularly useful for finding information on pages with a large amount of content. An example of this is a 'Back to Top' link, which is found on the bottom of long pages, and which will return you to the top of the current page.

  2. Local Links will lead you to another page within this site. An example of this is the links in the navigation bars at the top and bottom of each page.

  3. Remote Links will take you to an external site, such as our members websites on the 'Links' page. These will open in a new window so that you can go back to the TCVS website when you have finished. To do this, simply close the window by clicking on the 'x' in the top right hand corner, and you will return to the T.A.G. page from where you clicked the external link.

  4. Contact Links are e-mail addresses and will open up an e-mail window so you can contact the relevant person. Closing the e-mail window will bring you back to the previous page. If an email message is sent through this link, you will also be brought back to the previous page.

  5. Graphic Links Some of the images within this site also act as links to other pages. If you move your pointer over the graphic and the arrow changes from an arrow to a hand, then the image is a link.

EXAMPLE

TAG logo - Links to TAG Home PageText will appear when the pointer is over the image to let you know where the link will take you - place your mouse over the T.A.G. logo on the left to see an example of this. If at any point you change your mind about visiting the link once you have clicked (like if it is taking too long to load), you can press the 'stop' button found in the top toolbars of most browsers. If you would like to go back to the previous page, you can press the 'back' button which is a again found in the top toolbar of most browsers.

Browsers

The way a website is viewed depends on the computer used and which browsing software it supports (like Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator). This can affect how long a page takes to load and how well it displays images and animations. The TCVS website has been designed with accessibility in mind - for example, there are no animations, few images or large files and the text is plain and consistent. As such, it should be easily viewable in most web browsers.

This site is best viewed in Version 5 and above of Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. Versions before this may take slightly longer loading the few images on the site and the rollover effects on links may not be visible, but otherwise this site should be fully functional. You may be able to upgrade your browser by downloading the latest versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator or Navigator. If you are viewing the site on a text-only browser like Lynx, you will not be able to view the images on this site.

Other Tips

You may find it useful to Bookmark this site so you don't have to type the web address (called a 'url' or Universal Resource Locator) every time you want to visit the site. To do this, go to the top toolbar of your web browser window and select 'Favourites' for Internet Explorer and 'Bookmarks' for Netscape Navigator. This will give you the opportunity to regularly check your favourite page for updates.
