Norma was born in Barking but moved to Grays nearly fifty years
ago when she married. She attended the South-East Essex County
Technical School in Barking and trained as a secretary. After
various jobs she worked in the export department of a Purfleet
shipping company for almost 20 years, ending up as Data
Controller involving the inputting of data for stock
controls, container positions etc.
She joined the Society after her retirement in the early 1990s
and runs the Society bookstall, dealing with orders and taking
our books to various venues. She has a keen interest in family
history, most of the ancestors on her husband’s side coming from
Essex. She is hoping some of her nine grandchildren will follow
the tradition.
As
a result of following various avenues of research while
investigating her family history she is well versed in the
resources available locally for those who wish to embark on
their own search for their roots.
