c/o The Beehive Voluntary & Community Resource Centre, West Street, Grays, Essex RM17 6XP Providing advocacy for people with a learning disability
Further Information:What is Advocacy?Advocacy is where people with Learning Disabilities are supported by employees to make their own choices and to get those choices heard.
The Three Types of Advocacy BATIAS provides:Formal AdvocacyFormal Advocacy is where an employee supports the client with a crisis, or a specific problem. The employee acts as the go between to all parties involved attending meetings and ensuring that the wishes of the client are listened to. Once it issues are resolved, as much as possible, the Formal Advocate closes the case.
Citizen AdvocacyCitizen Advocacy is where a volunteer is matched up with a client to build a long-term relationship. The Volunteer supports the client to express their wishes and assists with practical problems such as domestic matters. The aim is to enable the client to live more independently, and on a social level pursue new interests.
Self-AdvocacyThese are groups where clients meet, and learn to advocate for them selves. This offers individuals support from a group setting. If you are interested in becoming involved in Advocacy as a volunteer please contact Angie Cahill, Citizen Advocate Facilitator, on 01375 857068. |
