In April 1993 the Estate and Factory became designated as a Conservation Area as it was realised what an important place this was. To complement this Conservation Area a special area has been built within the local library to house the memories of the people who have been a part of this community, as well as photographs and artifacts donated by them.
In 1933 land at East Tilbury, Essex was sold to The Bata Shoe Company for the foundation of a Shoe Factory.

As well as the Factory a garden city was planned and built which formed a way of life for many people living in this corner of Essex.
